August 2010
Hello again. First off I would like to thank everyone who came to our public meeting on the 14th of July. More than 100 attended the evening which included an address by the Mayor of Alcaucin, Guillermo Pérez. Guillermo took time to reassure members of SOHA.ES that there will be no demolitions on his watch. He also told us he intended to regularise about 99% of houses currently deemed illegal. He wanted everyone to relax and that if a house cant be legalised it will be regarded as “fuera de ordenaccion”, which basically that it will not become part of the urban plans. Thank you Guillermo for taking the time to talk to us.
The second part of the meeting was dedicated to voter registration. This consists of two phases. Firstly enpadronamiento. This means that you have registered as a member of the community. All you need is your passport, your NIE and a copy of either your escritura, or a rental agreement, or a bill for telephone, or electricity.
The second phase is voter registration which requires you to fill in a form which must be signed by you. This all needs to be done before the end of January. SOHA.ES has produced a guide to registration which will help you with the process. Copies can be obtained from us if you send an email to Steve at .
To make it even easier we are organising groups to go directly to the Ayuntamientos in Axarquia with a Spanish speaking guide. If you would like to join one of those groups get in contact with Steve at .
If you are still thinking that all this is a waste of time I will leave you with this thought. The problems that many of us are facing are, in the most part, down to corruption or incompetence in our Ayuntamientos. You have the right to choose the next mayor of your town, make sure you use it.
