They bought their houses with the convinced that they were fully legal and that they were registered as urban properties in the property registry, but when in February 2009 the mayor was arrested and imprisoned charged with corruption, it was realized that many properties were built illegally, on rural land and against planning laws.

For this reason and due to the uncertainty about the future of their homes, thirty owners  living in Alcaucín Valley area have just started the Association of People Affected by Irregular Hosuing Alcaucín, a move that is being supported by the legal firm attorney Gabriel Broncano of Nerja. “We hope to legalize all these houses in the new General Urban Plan (Plan) which is being developed, ”  it was said yesterday.

This is the second group of illegal dwellings affected by the establishment in the area, after the Save Our Homes Association, Save Our Homes (SOHA.ES), which has more than 200 members.
